Length of Pip award. was created by Joey123
Hi there. After having my PIP award entirely wiped out after a F2F on 28/02/20 I sent in a mandatory reconsideration request and had it all re-instated. The medical report was full of inaccuracies, lies and just anything to help them reduce my award. Anyway I am so relieved and happy that my income has been reinstated. However, the award is only from 11/04/20 to 01/09/21. The prospect of having to go through all this again in a little over a year makes me want to vomit. Anyway I have 2 long term chronic health conditions with very little prospect of improving. My last award was for originally 2 years but on appeal i managed to get it to 3 years. I was wandering if you think it would be wise to appeal this length of just 17 months or just accept it ??
Many thanks for your help.
Kind regards
Joey

Only you can make the decision to appeal or not, all we can provide is information to make your decision more informed.

Your current award is less than two years, this means that it will be a renewal rather than reassessment. The DWP has been starting this process about 14 weeks before the end of the year award but I would advise you to start it earlier to avoid having a period with no payments.

So, one of the questions you should ask yourself is whether an appeal will be heard before you start the renewal as the Decision that will result from this will make any Tribunal Decision on the length of the award moot. It was reported earlier in the week that Tribunals wait times were now up at 50-58 weeks.

A reassessment is done about six weeks before the award ends and uses the AR1 Review form, claimants are asked if anything has changed since the last assessment.

A renewal is done using a PIP2 form and is in effect a new claim.

Hi Gordon, are there any real major tangible differences between the two processes. I mean both require to fill in a form and then having to wait to see if you have a F2F. Do you require to send in new medical information for PIP2 with a definite F2F or can past medical evidence he used. I think from your advice I'll probably wait for a renewal.

They are not going to do a reassessment so I would not worry about what that will entail.

A renewal is effectively a new claim so think about what you included in and with your form when you applied for PIP in the first place.

Whether a face to face will be required is impossible to say, it is possible for a Decision to be made following a Paper Based Review but it depends on too many factors to call it.

You should send any evidence you have, even if it has been sent before as long as you can show that it is still relevant to your conditions and limitations at the time that you fill in the form.
