Hi there. O thanks I was worried they would require a completely new PIP medical report from my consultant and I could not use the original one from my initial claim. My consultant who has known me for over 20 years now has left and I have a new one who doesn't really know me at all. I have only met him a couple of times. Also i have built up a lot of evidence from my initial PIP claim which i have been using to overturn this PIP decision. I have had to use past decisions made by the DWP on PIP activities to justify my continued PIP award. I definitely do not want to loose all this evidence from my initial PIP award in a new claim. I may need to use this evidence in a new claim.
Thanks
Joey

Hi Gordon. You said the 'The DWP has been starting this process about 14 weeks before the end of the year' . Did you mean 14 weeks before the expiry date of the PIP award which in my case is Sep 01 2021 or did you mean the end of the actual year. I'm a bit confused.??

Thanks
Joey

Hi Joey123

If your award was for less than two years then it will be a renewal and a new PIP2, if it was more than two years then it should be a reassessment and an AR1, two years and it could be either.

Before the current crisis, the DWP was starting the assessments six months before the end of the award, renewals should be 14 weeks but I would start a new claim earlier than this to avoid a period without any payments.

To put your mind at ease contact DWP and ask, if you phone after 10:00 am you do not have to wait too long to get through, I waited 15 mins today which was quite quick.

Hi, my sympathies on short awards, they repeatedly do the same to our daughter. Two of her conditions are genetic ie there is no cure, only management. The effect of the conditions on her activities of daily living and mobility just worsens with age. But doctors tend to be reluctant to put a negative prognosis for the future in writing. So my approach is to grit my teeth and be determined not to be caught by the Hostile Environment. Files and files of form copies and extra evidence ready to help speed up each new form. I sit with a copy of the wording from this site about "1- safely, 2- to an acceptable standard and 3- as often as required" propped up in front of me when filling the form. I think diaries eg using the templates provided on here are a very powerful tool, and you have total control over writing one whereas you don't always get the wording from doctors you would like.
Best of luck, Denby

Hi there. I'm still undecided and confused whether to wait for a renewal or to appeal and ask for the award to be extended. I was awarded my initial Pip award for 3 years (long award) and I don't understand why at my reassessment they have made it for 1.5 years(short award ) .I'm very suspicious about the DWP and feel they may have a hidden agenda and want me to make a fresh claim to use it somehow to reduce my payments.. I do have a strong case for asking for an extension.but i don't know if it would be in my best interests to wait for a renewal or go to an appeal and ask for the award to be extended to a long award and wait for a reassessment I'm confused and worried about the difference in procedures between a renewal and reassessment
Many thanks for any further advice and information you could give.
Take care!
