I was supposed to be assessed in April 2019 but the assessment process began 6 months later. My assessment was in January 2020, & I lost my award in March 2020. Went to MR & got my award back, but they actually gave me my award from April 2019.

Same happened to my partner, yet his award was from the time that they stopped it which was in February 2020.

I've called DWP but even they don't seem to know why this has happened. So I wondered if anyone else could shed any light on this matter? I feel I've lost out by 6 months on my award length by them doing this to me. It probably wont make much difference but if they did this to everyone their awards will be 6 months short, & they're short enough as it is. It's almost like they'll allow you an award through the MR, but it will be a very short one.

I hope I've explained a bit better this time.

Decisions normally apply from the date that they are made unless there is a compelling reason for another date to be used, unless you reported a Change in April 2019 I can see no reason why the Effective Date of the Decision goes back to then rather than it being March 2020, the day after the previous award was stopped.

When the assessment process was started is a Red Herring and should not be relevant.

I would contact the DWP and ask for a written explanation of why the start date is 2019 and not 2020. You can then go from there to getting it fixed.
