Carers allowance + News style ESA was created by sugaplum
Hi,
My husband who receives carers allowance for me is now ill himself and has just claimed new style ESA contribution based. He is 64 and gave up his job to care for me 5 yrs ago. My question is, now that he gets ESA does he lose carers benefit. Should he contact carers and let them know? Also, I believe his medical problems should entitle him to be in support group, Does he wait for ESA sending him for a medical? ESA haven’t asked to see his sick note.
Thanks

I answered your basic question on your other topic.
Yes, he should contact the Cares Unit, the ESA team should do this automatically but you need to make sure it is sorted to avoid a recoverable overpayment.
Yes, he will have an assessment, you will have to wait and see whether this is a Paper Based Review, a telephone assessment or a face to face one when restrictions are lifted.

Many thanks, much clearer now.
Sorry for mix up and posting twice. Posted out of hours oops!
Will declare, don’t want to risk overpayment.
Cheers
