DWP DELAY IN DECISIONS was created by ROBERT CHALMERS
I wish to bring to your attention the totally unacceptable length of time taken by DWP / National Assessment Service to make decisions. I am currently shielding due to underlying health conditions which put me in the very high risk group for Covid-19.
I have suffered from Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, ("M.E."), for twenty five years, and following a severe relapse in early November last year, I was forced to leave my part-time employment, and am now virtually bedbound / housebound. Unfortunately this has been a regular cycle since 1995 of trying to hold down a job, resulting in a worsening of symptoms, each time more severe than the last. Regretfully, I now have to reluctantly accept that I can no longer attempt to work due to this illness, despite my determination to remain in employment.
I sent a completed PIP "Change of circumstances" form to DWP on 30.01.20, which was received by them on 04.02.20, but for some unknown reason was not received by the National Assessment Service until 04.04.20. Following another 'phone call to them today, they can give no indication of how long it will take to receive notification of an assessment. NINETEEN weeks after the DWP was notified by me. This in theory means that by the time I get an assessment, then await the DWP decision, it will be a minimum of SIX MONTHS before a decision is made. In fact, I find it astonishing that I should be asked to undergo another assessment given the evidence from my G.P. which was submitted to them.
I of course realise that the Covid-19 situation has put these departments under immense pressure, but as an ex civil servant myself, latterly working in adjudication (where decisions had to be made in a matter of days), I think that the current timescale for decisions is a national disgrace.

Hi R

The waiting times are unbearable for each and every claimant, and I'm sorry you have been waiting for such a long time with no idea when it will be concluded. As you know there is little to be done at the current time, but you might want to contact your MP and see if they can help to speed up your case.
