ESA Support when do payment start from was created by guesttracy
Hi i went for assessment in February and i was awarded esa support in march. I thought i would get money backdated from the date of assessment. The benefits agency have told be it is the date i was awarded it. Is this right.

If this was a reassessment then the new award applies from the date of the Decision unless you reported a Change of Circumstances in which case it should be the date that you contacted the DWP office dealing with your claim.

Hi i was originally in the working group after the year, i was not getting any payment but i was still getting letters to say that there was no change and i presume i was still in this group. Unfortunately my health detoriated and i spoke to someone at the benefits office and they said that it was easier to send out a new esa form to complete, which i then went for an assessment and put into support group. So not sure if reassessment or change of circumstances.

If you initiated the assessment then it should start from the date that you did this but you will need to show that you did this.

The contact log associated with your computer record may show you doing this but it may not have been recorded as you notifying a Change.

I would do an MR saying that you contacted them on date d/m/y to notify them of a Change of Circumstances and you would like an explanation, citing the relevant legislation of why the Decision does not apply from d/m/y.
