Just a question if it is over a year since you filled out a form for ESA should you have filled a new form out before having a telephone assessment.

There is no legal requirement for an ESA50 to be issued when an assessment is being done but it is very much standard practice for one to be sent, it most often happens where the claimant is classed as being at risk.

If there is time you could complete an ESA50 and send it to the assessor, you also have the option, providing this is the first appointment, to cancel this appointment to give you time to send something.

Otherwise, there is little you can do, the assessor may be willing to listen to you explain your current limitations but I suspect that they won't.

Some practical advice;

- have a glass or better still a jug of water available
- make sure you are seated in a comfortable chair, you are going to be there a while
- create a bullet list of any issues you want to be covered
- pen and paper in case you need to make notes
- if you can't hear or understand what is being asked then ask them to repeat the question
- you can record the assessment providing it is for personal use, you do not need to inform the assessor, in fact, if you do they will likely refuse permission and could terminate the interview.

Thanks Gordon unfortunately everything happened very quickly I was telephoned and told I was going to have a telephone assessment as they were not doing face to face. I did say it was well over a year since I completed my form and did I need to complete another form but was told it made no difference they needed to get the assessments done as quick as possible as they had a backlog and I would need this appointment otherwise benefit would stop. Luckily I read the advice on here and made sure I had my phone on speaker and was sat comfortably etc. I get the impression they are trying to rush through appointments now. Just waiting to hear but not hopeful.
