PIP appeal is there a cut off to backdate?

So I spoke to someone about my mandatory reconsideration and they said there’s no time line because of the coronavirus and they’re being told to prioritise new claims.

Online it also says an appeal can take up to 6 months, which I know I’ll have to end up doing because I won’t win the mandatory reconsideration.

So my question is, is there a set amount of time that a backdate gets cut off? If I win the appeal then it won’t be until next year most likely and I first applied in January. So it’s most likely gonna be over a year worth of backdate

Both an MR and an appeal re-make the Decision that is being challenged and apply from the same date, so, if this was a new claim for PIP then any backdated money should be paid from the date that you made the claim.

Thanks Gordon. I spoke to a friend and he said that there’s a cut off date though, like they only backdate you to a certain point if the whole process takes too long. Is that not true?

There is no limit on the backdating, your friend is incorrect.
