You remain entitled to payment for the first four weeks, providing you do not intend to be absent for more than 52 weeks and you continue to meet the conditions for an award of ESA, after that, you remain eligible for ESA(CB) and would not have to reclaim on your return.
You can be absent for up to 26 weeks in order to receive medical treatment or to accompany a dependant child for them to receive treatment providing the absence is temporary, you continue to meet the conditions for an award of ESA and the treatment abroad, whether for the claimant or a dependant child, must be by or under the supervision of a person qualified to provide medical treatment, physiotherapy, or similar forms of treatment.
