We have only had a half dozen or so members report a telephone assessment for ESA and none have come back to the forum to report how it went so we have no information that is specific to ESA, however, we do have detailed information for PIP telephone assessments, obviously, the questioning will be different but the process should be similar so have a look at our PIP Claim guide.

If it is any help questions very similar as to what they ask at a face to face. Also I was told you could still be called in for a face to face even though you were having a telephone assessment as they were hoping to resume face to face very soon. Good luck with it and make sure you sit comfortably and have anything you need to hand.

Well phone assessment took place on Friday morning. Bought a dictaphone and forgot to turn it on. I asked if she had the letters of support in front of her. She did. I asked her if she was a doctor. As last f to f was cancelled with half an hour's notice previously as my son had suffured a stroke. So had to be assessed by a doctor. She said she was a physio and that rules had changed !!!! ...... No rapid fire questions. Phone assessment lasted for 20 minutes. Said, she was ringing to ensure my son was recieving the correct money... Strange.... Suggested we get his sight registration updated to present day. Pointless as hospitals are bearly seeing anyone. She actually said it was too difficult for her as he wasn't sat Infront of him. Topics briefly covered were his sight loss, his adaptions, his ability to cook a main meal. Didn't even cover his ability to navigate a strange place without assistance... We shall see... I think he will be awarded for short period and then get called in for a face to face as soon as they are able. She seemed genuinely sympathetic with his disability, mainly hidden since stroke. Submitted a letter this time from his stroke rehabilitation specialist. Staying there is no prospect of him recovering any more . As 5 years have elapsed and he would be unemployable due to short term memory loss. We shall see if they take the support letters seriously. The stress of these assessments are too much .

Hi Tish
Thanks for the feedback on the phone assessment.
Fingers crossed, hope everything goes to plan, if it does not then once you know the outcome request a copy of the assessors report before putting in for a MR.
