my son just received text saying his pip claim will be done Thursday over the phone. He has just been informed this morning he that he needs to see a cardiologist with newly diagnosed atrial fibrillation. This was not mentioned on original claim as he did not know about it until today but was obviously present at time he sent his claim in.Will this be taken into account or will they just go off what is in original claim form or does he have to inform them before Thursday which could be difficult now, or will it complicate the claim as they may say it has to be a new claim which after waiting 6 months he does not want to do.
Your son can mention it at the time of the assessment, and it will be up to the assessor whether they take it into account. The issue is, is not the atrial fibrillation (or any other diagnosis) it is how his medical condition affects the PIP criteria. You say it wasn't mentioned before - but did you not say that he had a heart condition or difficulty in functioning? Conditions have to be in place for 3 months (before a claim) and be an issue for the following 9 months for the DWP to take notice of them. He has nothing to lose by saying it.
