ESA was created by Rose
Hello my husband has standard pip and mobility. He has Esa support group.
I will have to leave work to become his carer. I am off sick currently.
I know I can claim carers allowance.

Can I claim for esa too. Will I be placed on my husband's claim.
Many thanks Rose

Hi Rose

You say that you are currently of sick from work, do you receive SSP/sickness payment from work? www.gov.uk/statutory-sick-pay.

To claim Carers Allowance you have to meet qualifying conditions www.gov.uk/carers-allowance.

When you say your husband has ESA support you don't mention what type is it IR ESA or CB ESA?

You asked if you can claim ESA, You can check by putting your information into one of the online benefit calculators.

www.gov.uk/benefits-calculators

www.gov.uk/apply-universal-credit

Even if you can apply for UC you might also want to have a look at whether you can claim New Style ESA, you will need to wait for your SSP to end.

you can make a claim in advance of this, you will need to have at least 50 weeks of NI Contributions in the two Tax Years 2017-18 and 2018-19.

www.gov.uk/guidance/new-style-employment-and-support-allowance

In both cases you will need a Fit Note from your GP.

Our ESA/UC Claim guide explains the criteria you will need to meet for an award.

If your limitations have existed for three months then you may be able to claim PIP

www.gov.uk/pip/how-to-claim

Our PIP Claim guide explains the criteria

If you have any specific questions then please reply to this post and we will do our best to help.

Thank you Gary.
My husband has CBD ESA IN support group. I have applied for enhanced rate pip care component.

I will be finished by my employer.

My husband needs my full time care he has a rare brain disease.
A lady who was in the same position as me told me when she was finished she claimed esa and was added to her husband's claim. I had not heard of this before. I have worked 2 days a week since April 18. I was full time before that.

I am off with stress wife March 2020

Hi Rose

I would make a claim for NS ESA in your own name providing you meet the qualifying conditions. www.gov.uk/employment-support-allowance/eligibility

To be entitled to ESA, you must not be entitled to either IS or JSA. Additionally, you cannot receive 'new style' or contributory ESA as well as carer's allowance as this is an overlapping benefit. www.gov.uk/carers-allowance/effect-on-other-benefits
