Unexpected Review of PIP was created by Alf Tupper
My wife was awarded PIP In 2017 For five year’s (2022) at the enhanced rate for both components. She is 62 this year.
Today we had a letter from DWP and my heart sank when I saw the dreaded brown envelope. However, when opened, the contents we’re surprising. The letter stated that the award had been looked at again and it had been decided that the award was at the same rate for an ongoing period. Which is good news. Is this something new or has it occurred to others previously?

Many congratulations.
Last year the Minister for the DWP announced that awards that ended after the claimant would reach State Retirement Age would be considered for an On-Going award.

Thanks Gordon
I did consider that scenario but my wife doesn’t reach state pension age until 2024 because of the changes to women’s pensions. Her award was due to end in 2022 with the review likely in 2021. Unless they are using the old pension age of 60 for the purposes of reviews.

I was referring to the new award, not the old one

Roger that. Looks like they undertook a review a year early, without telling us and without us having to fill anything in. That was a surprise.

We have seen this but not for some time as everything has been topsy-turvey due to the Covid-19 crisis.
