pip question for new claim was created by roserose1607
hi everyone , im new here, so hope i am using this correctly. apologies if not !
i recently applied for pip at the end of june , after years of being in esa support group( and still am ) with a mixture of incurable auto immune diseases including systemic lupus.

To cut a long story short, i am based in south wales and 2 to 3 times a year i have to got to london for hospital appointments. i don't drive and my dad drives me there. i filled the form in using the guide on here and answered honestly that i no longer go anywhere on my own due to vertigo and balance issues that i am on medication for.

However, i was reading another forum where someone who advises on benefits mentioned to another user that the accessor could " infer things from long journeys being taken" and it could go against anyone who has made clear they need support to travel and can not travel alone, they were also referring to medical appointments which is what worries me .

why would this go against someone like myself or the original claimant who he was referring to ?
i have been honest and said i need somebody with me to undertake any journey , does the distance and time frame of a journey to a hospital appointment count ? judging by the descriptors i have put down , shouldn't it only matter that i need support and the distance of journey be irrelevant ?

sorry for this being such a long winded post, any help or answers would really be appreciated.
kind regards
Rose.

Hi roserose1607

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

Unfortunately, some assessors infer all sorts of things that are not meant from what a claimant writes and some assessors don't and they clarify any issues. At the end of the day it comes down to luck.

I have a friend who has PIP and is housebound. They still go the hospital for a variety of procedures. The PIP assessor still accepted that they are housebound - they didn't say 'They manage to go to the hospital - so they could go out elsewhere.'

I would try not to worry about it. You can't go back and write anything different. You were honest and if there is an issue over it - you fight that when it happens.
