Hi
My head has been battered filling this form in. I’ve tried following the guidance but because of my fibro fog I’ve really struggled.
I have fibromyalgia, anxiety, spondylolisthesis grade 4 and a lot of stomach problems like acid, gastritis and reflux. I don’t sleep very well, can barely walk when I get up. Have good and bad days with walking outside, also good and bad days with anxiety. The last time I saw my spine surgeon was 2016 but I’m booked for an x ray on 18th of this month as my back is getting worse. I have no other reports for anything else only letters for appointments. I also go to my parents every day as they are very ill and I’m their Carer, mainly to watch mum with dementia as dad is dying of cancer so can’t watch her through the day very well. Will all this go against me? Do I need to explain more in additional notes? I’ve had DLA and PIP in the past but had horrible assessments and a truly horrible appeal which made me not want to apply again. I’m scared of having to talk to them if I have to. I don’t think I’ve explained very well on the form.

Hi Bellaboo

It isn't necessarily about things 'going against you'... more you need to be ready to answer what may appear as contradictions in what you say.

Certainly, anyone who is a carer and then applies for PIP is likely to be asked about it. They will want to know whether you can actually do the 'caring duties', if you require help yourself.

They don't want you to send a copy of letters for appointments - but you can mention it on your form. Have you any older letters that you have copies of - or do such letters exist in your medical records. Do you have a supportive GP at all and do you have a family member or friend who could write a supporting letter?

I can't tell you whether you need to expand on what you've already said, but be aware there is a good chance you will receive a telephone assessment, especially if you don't have the medical evidence to corroborate what you are saying.
