Good Morning all, first question i filled in a pip renewal form i received in november 2019 and sent it in december 2019, i,ve made serveral calls to pip and during 1 conversation in august this year i wall told it was with the assessors but then it was requested back by the dwp no reason given, then sept i rang again to be told it was back with the assessors and i will hear from them shortly it has now been extended to november 2020 its been the same story since january this year, anyone else had the same wait? it will be a year come this november.

my second question is i had a works pension i only had for 1 year 1991/1992 it has amasted to just under £11.000 if i cash it in will it affect my pip or esa? i was told yesterday it would be taxed could i claim this tax back? many thanks Logan.

1. The DWP started extending PIP Awards as they were unable to carry out assessments, they have started doing telephone and Paper assessments.

My guess and I stress that it is a guess but it does fit what you have described in your post, is that the Assessment Provider (AP) for your postcode did a Paper review but this was rejected by the DWP, you are now waiting for either a telephone assessment or possibly a face to face one, although it is looking increasingly likely that the latter will not happen this year.

You can chase the AP for an update. If you don't know who does assessments in your area then have a look at the following.

www.gov.uk/government/publications/pip-postcode-map-uk

Capita
capita-pip.co.uk/en/contact.html

IAS (formerly ATOS)
www.mypipassessment.co.uk/contact-us/

2. Your PIP is not affected.

If you receive Contribution Based ESA only then a lump sum payment will not affect your ESA although further ones might, if you take a regular payment then there is an £85/week disregard followed by £1/week deduction for every £2 in excess of the £85.

If you receive Income Related ESA in part or in whole then any lump sum will be treated as capital, see the following

Asset and savings rule for ESA(IR)

Any regular income will be deducted from your ESA(IR) £ for £.

Hi Gordon, you were very correct in saying in what you said regarding (My guess and I stress that it is a guess but it does fit what you have described in your post,)
as days later i got a phone call,
1 quick question is your claim back dated from the time of the phone call with dwp or from the the time i sent in the form, the form i received in november 2019 sent back in december 2019 if i get the enhanced rate. Once again thank you. either way when i find out i shall let people know on here how i got on.

Hi Logan2

It is normally four weeks after the actual Decision was made, the date of the decision.

Hello all, had my telephone pip review 2 saturdays ago, and after reading on here i realised i could ask for a copy of my report which i have now received, my orignal reveiw form was put in nov 2019, they have put on the report my heart failure was diagnosed in 2015 by a specialist and is managed by my gp. in 2019 i was reffered again to the hospital for tests as my heart condition had went from mild to serevere i was then put into the care of the heart failure team and cardiology team i have sent copies of the letters from the hospital to state this and am currently waiting for tests to see if i qualify to have a defibrillator fitted even though they have the letters stating this ,we have sent further evidence in from the hospital in march 2020 which they have recieved but none of this was mentioned in the report. i was also sent to have tests for parkinsons from my gp as i am suffering from bad shakes in my hands and also losing my balance, in june 2019 i recieved a letter off the parkinsons clinic stating that they did not think i had parkinsons but that there was some evidence of bradykinesia, now my symtoms have become much worse and was at the doctors in september this year as i kept losing my balance and thought this might be due to my neuropathy in my feet, to be told by the doctor that i should now be using 2 walking sticks instead of 1 and that my symtoms are much more noticeable i told him that the parkinsons clinic didnt seem to think that i had it, but the doctor said that he thinks that i do have parkinsons and he would be writing a letter to the parkinsons clinc as he knows the specialist at the parkinsons clinic , i have a appointment to see a neurologist at the hospital in november and am also waiting to hear back from occupational therapist of parkinsons clinc, i also suffer back problems which they also have evedience of, now on the report she said that i can plan and follow the route of a journey unaided which is untrue as my wife has to go with me and i also have to use a walking stick or my wheeelchair , the assesor also said that if i can get in and out of a car which i said i can but need help that i can get in and out of the bath without assistance, all the way through the report on nearly every page she referes back to the letter stating no evedience of parkinsons 1 of the medical practitoners from my doctors surgery has offered to talk to the dm (if thats possible) since i,ve already had my pip review phone call, is this possible to talk to the dm before a decision is made. I do intend to challange this report in the coming days. Your thoughts on this would be gratefully appreciated. Much appreciated Logan.

There is a small window for you to write to the Decision Maker but you will need to be quick.

Understand that the assessor is offering an opinion when they say that you can do the PIP activities, tackling these head-on is unlikely to be successful, you need to show that the basis of that opinion is founded on incorrect information, so try and refer to your evidence to undermine what they have said.

Also, try and stick to issues that lead to your scoring points, I often hear members referring to the assessors spelling, as an example, whilst it may show a lack of professionalism, raising it as an issue isn't going to help you get an award.

Lastly, make sure that you understand the criteria that you are being assessed against you can put the best case forward that is possible but you won't score points if you do not meet the PIP Descriptors. Your post concentrates on your conditions, do not rely on the assessor or the DM (who is not medically trained) understanding these and applying to the PIP activities.

Make sure that your letter makes it clear that you are not requesting a Mandatory Reconsideration but you reserve the right to do so once a Decision has been made.
