Decision after WCA for UC was created by Ellecole
Hello there,
How long does it take to hear from DWP regarding their decision, after doing a telephone work capability assessment?
I did ask my work coach but he told me they didn't have any timetable.
I need some kind of rough estimate (even if it's as vague as 1 to 12 months) otherwise, my anxiety will go through the roof.
Also, can you only get into the LCWRA group if you score a 15 on one of the descriptors?
So if you only score 6's and 9's across the majority of the descriptors, you would still be put in the LCW group?
Thanks in advance.

Hello Elle,
Unfortunately your work coach is right - they do not seem to have a timetable when it comes getting back to people, however stressful might be for people waiting to hear. I would suggest that if you have not heard after a couple of months you give the DWP a phone call and ask when you can expect to hear. Make sure you tell them, if it is so, that no knowing is putting additional strain on your mental health.
As for getting into the LCWRA group, or support group as was, go to this page
www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/esa1
and have a look at the first link - ESA and UC Claims for physical, mental health and learning difficulties - a guide to the limited capability for work assessment.
There is a really useful index, have a look at that, but particularly, four ways to get into the support group without using the descriptors.... pg 22

Hello Catherine,
Thank you for your reply.
I actually got the decision today and my assessment was on the 19th January. I was definitely not expecting an answer so soon.

That’s good to hear Elle, and thank you for letting us know. Hopefully the decision was also the one you were hoping for.
