Dear fellow members,

I just want to as means of encouragement tell you that over a year ago I went to see someone to assess me for ESA (it was a review).
The person I saw at the centre was awful, I was in pain and crying, the assessment took about 2 hours.

I called esa to say I was unhappy about the way I was treated at the assessment and despite on my esa form having put I did not want a call back I would appreciate a call back from my assessor.
One or two days later I got a call back from my assessor but I was so unwell I asked her if she could please call me back in a few hours which she did.

When she called back she told me that when she had seen all the health problems I suffer from (which I always list on the form with at the end the list of every single letter, medical evidence that is enclosed)
that she desperately wanted to call me (it sounded like to help me) but could not because on the esa form I had specifically said I did not want a call back for health reasons as I do not sleep at night because of the pain and sleep and nap in the day when I can.
And it is only because I had call them asking for a call back that she could.

She asked me very few questions because she said she did not want me to suffer and would only be a few minutes. Before terminating the call, she told me, I do not remember the word she used to describe the professional who assessed me at the centre i went to, but she said do you want to know how many points she gave you.
She was talking to me as a friend. I said yes, She said: ZERO. Meaning I would have been taken off ESA Support Group. She said and i wanted to call you but coud not (until i requested it by calling them). I suspect she wanted to back her decision to go against the advice of the person who saw me. She told me she gave you ZERO points but it is my decision. She only wanted to ask me also if I could use my arms for wheelchair but I have problems also with those on and off so I told her no and I had recent medical evidence.
She said she would send me her decision in the post.

When I did just a few days later she had let me remain on ESA Support Group.
My testimony is that in my case the person who saw me did everything to recommend I get zero points yet the ESA assessor saw through it all and let me stay on ESA Support Group.
I believe she was caring and genuine and looking at all the medical evidence, 1 inch thick she went with the medical professionals.

Yet at the back of my mind, because I had made such a big fuss about the way I was assessed (that despite crying because of the pain and distress, and asked to carry on the assessment the person had the centre I went to said we had to go through it,) that I wanted to complain about her treatment of me and I had asked over the phone how to complain I am thinking that maybe they were a bit scared I would complain, as my assessment was recorded at my request, i was given the CD and thought when I would get home it would not play but it did.
Also the person I saw told me that because I had asked for it to be recorded she had to be more thorough even when I asked if we could carry on the assessment another day because I was in too much pain and I would come back at an agreed date.

Hopefully this will give some of you hope.

Best of luck.
Best wishes

Hi Olympia, I am sorry that you had such an awful experience and I hope when others read your post that they can see that you should never be scared to complain about treatment from the assessment process. I am really pleased it was sorted out for you
