'Change' of circumstances and possible backdate? was created by Violet77
Hello,
My partner had a Pip assessment on July 2019, with the tape recorder and got Pip.
I wasn't with her at the time but I heard the taped conversation and saw what she was entitled to. As her new carer I would like to get some advice on what to do.
I believe that she is entitled to more points than what she does, and not because she got worse (which she did, since I have been with her at least) but because from what she said and the taped declaration, she definitely deserved at least 2 more points for cooking since July 2019, which would put her into the enhanced daily living. She has been considered capable to cook with prompting when in reality she cannot cook at all, prompted or unprompted. She forgets leaving things on, burn things and struggled even with a timer. But also she is very weak and struggled to lift a pan, something about her wrists she says and I can see her struggling.
I told her I think we should submit a change of circumstances but she is terrified. The Pip assessment apparently really stressed her out and the Pip people have refused to do a home visit in July 2019 because she had an assault episode toward her ex.
Please any advise would be very helpful,
Ally

Hello Ally,
We really can’t (and shouldn’t) advise you and your partner on what to do. Sorry about that.
You seem to have a good understanding of how the system works, but do look our guides if you want to refresh yourself, things are always changing.
You are right, you could submit a change of circumstances, but there is always the risk that your partner could lose the award which they currently have. If the two of you decide to go down that route, at the moment, due to COVID, there are no face to face assessments, they are either by phone or paper based. It sounds as if that might be easier for your partner to deal with. As far as I know there has been no indication of how things will look post COVID, and certainly no indication of when that might be.
I feel sorry for the two of you having to make this decision, but you sound well equipped to be able to so.
Catherine
P.s. you don’t say who long her current award is for. One option is to simply wait for that time to roll round.

Hi Catherine, thank you for the response. Her award was supposed to be until July 2021 but has been extended, I think due to covid.
Maybe it's better to wait yes, because she is terrified to lose it, the phone appointment would probably be more duable for her than the face to face one, but still very stressful.
