Quick PIP question was created by yf1001
Hi guys just a quick couple of questions, firstly is it normal for the PIP telephone interview to last less than 20 minutes? As that is how long my wife’s was. And also when phoning to ask for a mandatory reconsideration is it normal for them to not take any details you want to add to your claim? All the guy said was ok we will look at it again goodbye and hung up!
Any help is appreciated.

Hi Steve

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.

Welcome to Benefits and Work .

From you post I am not 100% sure where you are, are we talking about an assessment or are we talking about asking for a Mandatory Reconsideration?

PIP assessments can last for a short period of time if the assessors have the information and only want clarification on issues raised.

When you phone for a MR they usually ask what points you are not happy with and if you have further supporting documents to add. It is usually better to request a MR in writing, I usually use the form called a CRMR1 form, but you can make the request by letter or by phone.

Hi Steve, sorry to hear their behaviour has been so puzzling. If they've just done your wife's assessment, do phone on day 3 afterwards to request the assessment report ["PA4"]. You need this to help draft your actual MR submission which you normally have a one month time limit on. Usual suggestion when you get the report is to go through it with at least one highlighter marking up whatever is missing, wrong etc. Then-credit to the Mod who came up with this- select which of those items will actually give more points if corrected. Reference each to the relevant evidence document. Hope this helps, Denby

Thank you for the reply Gary, the telephone assessment lasted around 20 minutes to which the application was unsuccessful so phoned for MR, the guy at the end of the phone didn’t ask for any new evidence. He did say 20 minutes was not long enough to conduct an assessment and said we should log a complaint. We have now filled in and sent the CRMR1 form with all evidence the assessor left out of the report so fingers crossed.

Hi Steve

Good luck with your MR, let us know how you get on. :)

Not to put a dampener on things but the success rate for a MR is quite low, about 17%. If you do not get the result you hoped for then you can appeal, we do have some very good guides.

If you want to appeal a Decision then you must either complete an SSCS1 form or request the appeal via the Tribunal Service's online system.

www.gov.uk/appeal-benefit-decision

Our appeal guides explain the process and have links to the form. The Submissions document has completed examples of the form.
