SICK NOTE? was created by richmond
Hi all.
Confused here, I was told by the DWP to only send a sick note in for 3 months for my claim for Universal Credit and ESA, but on another call I was told it is okay to send a sick note in covering a year, my conditions will not improve if anything will get worse so my Doctor is willing to work with me, any advice welcome, thank you again.

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Sam,
I have never come across a maximum length of fit note. Your one year note is in reality a 3 month one plus another nine months, so I would send it in and I would be amazed if they complain.
Do let us know if they don't accept your longer one!

Hi Sam,
A little more information, courtesy of a learned friend - in the first 6 months of a condition the maximum length a fit note can be is 3 months. After that 6 months is up the fit note can be for any length of time that is clinically appropriate, up to an indefinite length.
Hope that sheds a little more light on matters.
