ESA eligibility based on Reg 9/Carers Allowance was created by Chardie
Hello,
I wonder if anyone can help me? I'm considering applying for ESA and I believe I'm eligible under Regulation 9 as I was claiming carers allowance from June 2018 to February 2020 plus an 8 week run on which took me upto 14th April 2020.
My question really is how long I have left to apply for ESA under this criteria, do I need to do so before the 5th April 2021 or will I be eligible until January 2022?
I hope I'm making sense!
Many thanks!

Hi Chardie
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is.
Welcome to Benefits and Work .
You need to seek advice from your local welfare rights worker who can take all your circumstances into consideration to give you accurate advice, you can no longer claim ESA which is a legacy benefit but you maybe able to claim New Style ESA Providing you;
- paid Class 1 or Class 2 Contributions before the relevant benefit week in respect of any one Tax Year
and
- were receiving Carers Allowance throughout the Tax Year 2018-19 then Regulation 9(2)(a) of The Employment and Support Allowance Regulations 2013.
www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2013/379/regulation/9/made
Then the first Contribution Condition is met and you will only need Class 2 Contributions from your CA in the two Tax Years 2017-18 and 2018-19.
