Hello, please could you tell me what pip care component qualifies for applying for severe disablement benefit, do both standard and enhanced care apply. Or just enhanced care?

Thank you.

Hi ann

The SDP became payable from the first day that all three of the following applied.

1. You had an award of ESA and we’re receiving or were entitled to receive Income Related ESA.

2. You had an award of PIP Daily Living

3. You met the criteria for payment of the SD Premium, namely that you lived alone or were considered to be living alone and no one receives Carers Allowance against your PIP award or as a couple you can qualify if both you and your partner get a qualifying benefit (PIP daily living).

Enhanced disability premium is paid if you are under pension age and in receipt of the daily living component of PIP at the enhanced rate or High care rate for DLA.

Thank you Gary for your reply regarding SDP, I received a back payment to 2017, I’m trying to find out what the criteria is for sdp for the year 2016, I was receiving standard care for 2016, would I have still been entitled to back pay for standard care component in 2016. Thank you.

Hi ann

The answer is yes, providing you fit the qualifying criteria, see my previous post. The criteria is the same for any year, for DLA you must be getting middle rate care or higher.

Hi Gary, I had a call from the Esa Department yesterday, disputing about the year 2016, I ask what they are disputing about and the gentlemen said its something to do with me not letting the esa department know that my son was getting pip, I didn't know I had too. it was one office dealing with it, know a different office, the man I spoke to yesterday seems not to understand what the previous offices details mean. I just don't know what to think, my sdp was backdate to 2017, and my situation was the same in 2016? I didn't even know anything about sdp benefit, it was the conplience team that informed me of this benefit.

I look forward to your thoughts on this matter. thank you.

Hi ann

Depending on your circumstances, if your son was in receipt of the daily living component of PIP in 2016 and you were in receipt of a qualifying benefit then you may be eligible for a backdate premium SDP, although your SDP was backdated to 2017, you may have been eligible to be backdated to 2016.

I am only guessing as I do not know your circumstances, but look at my first post to see the criteria for SDP.
