New housing benefit claim was created by Mr E
Hello,
Recently my mum passed away who rented property from the NI housing executive and claimed housing benefit. We lived in the same home.
Now it is just us two sons left in the house. We were wondering that if making a joint tenacy do we both claim housing benefit and if so, what affects does this have to our employment and support allowance (we are both in the highest group)?
Will this trigger a change to Universal Credit for one of is or both of us?
Thank you..

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi Mr B
Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is
Welcome to Benefits and Work
Housing benefit is not a topic we cover on the forum, you will need to contact an organisation such as Shelter as it can be tricky when talking about succession rights of a tenancy.
In NI the organisation is called Housing Advice NI www.housingadviceni.org
Call them on 028 9024 5640 to speak to a housing adviser. Their helpline is open between 09:30 and 16:30 Monday to Friday. The helpline closes on public holidays.

Hi Mr B and moderators
Firstly my condolences to your brother and you Mr B. Welcome to the forum.
It is not your fault, as you were not to know, but I too am 'Mr B' on this forum and have been so for more years than I care to remember! I did not realise it was possible for 2 different members to be able to use the same handle! This is of course confusing as to which Mr B is posting at any particular time! Would it therefore be possible for you to change your handle Mr B so as to avoid any confusion as to which of us is actually posting?
Many thanks
Mr B
