UC Assessments/UC50's was created by morna
Who decides who does/doesn't require to have an assessment for UC? I have no objections to having one, but don't think I should have to. I was on Incapacity Benefit for 18 years after being retired through ill health, and p exempt from working during that time. So far, I've filled in three UC50 forms. I spoke with a lady from HAAS who was able to tell me the first one had arrived with them too late, and was sent back to my local Job Centre. I checked with them, but they couldn't find it. The second, they are now telling me they didn't get. I sent both via Special Delivery. So yesterday, I sent off my third. I enclosed a letter saying I didn't think I really needed an assesssment, but that I was prepared to have one. I also pointed out that my PIP has been reinstated. I just wish they would hurry up! Surely 6 months is far too long to have to wait. Anyone have any words of encouragement?

Hello Morna,
I would love to be able to give you words of encouragement, but I can’t find any significant ones for you.
To the best of my knowledge everyone who is unable to work due to health has to complete a ESA50 or UC50, the Capability for Work Form. Now generally people only have to fill in one of them! Hopefully you kept a copy of the first one you did, so you did not have to keep rethinking it all.
Like PIP, sometimes there is a paper based assessment so you don’t need to actually turn up for face to face or telephone assessment, but that is relatively unusual and only where the outcome is extremely obvious. I believe that the assessment body, rather than the DWP make the decision as to what type of assessment it should be – i.e. paper, telephone etc
Well done on getting your PIP re-instated, and where there is a cross-over of activities the DWP should consider that, but a many of the activities are unique to each award.
Yes, I agree that 6 months is too long to have to wait, but you seem to have hit problems with both your forms and of course the infamous pandemic which seems to now be excuse for everything to be taking longer. Fortunately since you sent the second form off via Special Delivery any award you get should be back dated to that point.
