Good Day,

would there be any information or leaflets regarding informing the DWP about a change of circumstances, if you have mental health problems, my brother and sister moved out of my mums house back in 2016, was is suppose to inform the dwp? my mental health problem affects my communicating skills. and its not my house, I just reside there. I was entitled to back pay of a benefit but because I didn't inform them of a change I am unable to apply for backpay.

Hello Ann,

It is always safest to inform the DWP of any change of circumstances. As you have discovered the painful way if you don't do so there is a risk that you will end up having to pay back money.

If you need more specific advise then we would suggest finding someone local to you who can explore the particular details of your situation.

This can be a helpful link in locating someone.

Unfortunately I am not aware of any leaflets from the DWP on this matter. Apologies for the delay in responding to this post!
