PIP review soon how will results effect UC/ESA? was created by AlwaysLost
I have a PIP review soon and I'm filled with dread and feel a bit cheated because I was told my PIP was the by extended due to covid for up to two years when in fact it's not been extended at all (my original review is due next month). Though to be honest, I'm hardly surprised they did this considering what they've already put me though.
Not to rattle on, I have 3 questions and would deeply appreciate any reply
1. If they do take away my PIP, it seems my carers element will probably get removed from my UC/ESA claim as well. I wonder if this is done automatically or do I need to tell the DWP because PIP are part of a different branch?
2. Should I fail PIP, would this trigger a the ESA on UC from to be reviewed earlier for whatever reason?
3. This one is a bit more complicated; I have actually used the guides on this site to help get through my last ESA review (thank you!) and though I passed I was given a back dated repayment from when I applied. My concern is the time given has actually taken away from the total time from now into the future, e.g 14 of the months of past payments is back dated and 14 until the next review instead of being reviewed 28 months into the future from the time of the initial review. This seems like a bit of a con to me because I'd much rather have the 28 months instead of a back payment because I don't deal with reviews well at all. Is this the case? have they just cut my next review date in half due to having claimed much earlier and instead got back payments?
Thank you for reading!

Hi AlwaysLost
You are not alone, we have heard from a number of members who were told that their PIP has been extended only to receive a review form a short period later.
In answer to your questions:
1) The carers element in UC is different than if you claimed CA, if you are caring for a severely disabled person for at least 35 hours a week, you can claim carers element. You do not have to claim Carer's Allowance to get this element.
2) If you failed PIP it would not trigger a ESA review, if you initially get turned down for PIP ask for a copy of the assessors report (PA4) then the next stage would be to apply for a MR and if you are still turned down, you then appeal.
3) Your claim is from when you applied, sometimes it can take a while for a claim to be put in payment especially if you have to apply for a MR and then go on to appeal the decision. ESA is an indefinite award with scheduled reassessment based on the Prognosis Date completed by the assessor in their report (ESA85), so your existing ESA award continues in payment until a new Decision is made.
