ESA and selling 2 puppies. was created by runningcowboy
Hi, I decided in Jan to use my 3 yr old female dog to have a puppy as the cost of purchasing a dog ran into several thousands.

My dog gave birth 12 weeks ago to 3 pups.

I kept one and sold the other two for half the price they currently seem to go for.

I’m well under the £6K limit.

I’ve never had puppies in the 15 years I’ve owned dogs so it’s not a regular thing.

Does this still need to be declared as income? I get contributory and income based ESA. I believe I get around £110 ish a week for contributory and around £60 income based.

If they said it is income , and I got this over a period of 2 weeks when I sold the pups, do they only take 2 lots of £60 for the two weeks and I keep the rest?

If you take into account the cost of keeping my dog that was pregnant, I haven’t really made a profit, as she’s cost me a lot more in vets fees etc when she broke her leg.

Or is this classed as just selling personal possessions? The day before I sold the pups I had a total of four dogs that had a value. I then sold 2 but that also meant I lost 2 dogs of value that I owned.

Hi runningcowboy

I'm sorry, but your question is outside the scope of the forum and you would need to ask a specialist benefits advisor or ask the DWP.
