ESA - Moving house/change of circumstances

Hi - I've looked on the site and on the Internet but can't seem to find a definitive answer for my particular circumstances.

I have been in receipt of contributory ESA for around 18 months and I am in the support group. My home is mortgaged and I'm also in receipt of PIP but no other benefits I.e. Housing benefit. If I move to another mortgaged property, will this affect my ESA benefit and be classed as a barge of circumstances? The house move would be to another property in the same council Borough. Spoke to Citizens Advice and they said it may be subject to the amount of savings I have, but I have never been asked to provide bank statements or any proof of other income.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi Tebor

The answer is NO. At this moment in time most claimants in receipt of a contributation based benefit will not be affected even if they moved to another local authority.

If you were on a means tested benefit such as IR ESA and you moved house within the same local authority then you can still stay on legacy benefits. if you have a change of circumstances such as someone moving in with you then you would have to apply for UC, this does not apply if you are on a contributory benefit such as CB ESA.

Savings are not taken into account if you are in receipt of CB ESA, if you receive an occupational pension and claim CB ESA then your pension income may be taken into account depending on the amount of pension you receive.
