Are PIP reviews split up into categories?

Hi all,

More than likely my mind working overtime again, but are PIP reviews split up into preferences i.e. ones that require a face to face, ones that require a telephone assessment and ones that require a paper based assessment?

In other words; would a request for a paper based assessment, if granted, be dealt with more quickly than one which it is deemed to require a face to face assessment?

I am hoping that the request by my GP for a paper based assessment is in fact granted but it is 7 weeks since the form arrived with the DWP.

I think I know the answer - that no-one knows. However, I wonder if any members have any recent experiences?

Hi Phrank

I think if you get an answer from any of the members - it still won't tell you very much. It is their experience and won't necessarily show any pattern. Some people are getting telephone assessments very quickly (a matter of days - especially if they live somewhere where there are more assessors available) and others are waiting four months or more. Some paper-based are coming in within a week and others are taking months. Face to face assessments are only happening on a limited basis so it's hard to comment.

Thanks Bis,

Totally random as I thought. And so the wait goes on.

I must learn to be patient, but that's easier said than done.

Regards,

Phrank.

Hi Phrank
We requested a paper based assessment for our son ( with plenty of evidence). We applied in December and he received his award in June. So 6 months in total, paper based.

Hi Phrank, Mine took 3 weeks. It was a ‘renewal’ but classed as a ‘new application’. I requested paper based. It is completely random; the ‘unknowing’ part is one of the reasons it is all so stressful. I was expecting it to take ages. They are ‘apparently’ prioritising ‘new claims’. People’s awards have been extended so reviews have time to be done within the new (extended) timeframe. None of these is an answer, but yet more info for your brain to whirl round…

Hi Rosebud and Angel,

Thanks for your imput. Really appreciated.

Well, not surprisingly it does seem totally random. The two posts cover both ends of the spectrum - so there is no way of knowing where your claim or renewal is in the process.

Interesting, but not surprising - considering the turmoil Covid has caused.

Regards,

Phrank
