Worrying Universal Credit for disability situation was created by GottaBe
Hi,
I posted yesterday but a bunch of other posts have gone up in the meantime so I wondered if my post had gotten lost somewhere and I'm trying again.
I started a UC claim for limited capability for work just before the pandemic. I filled in a WCA form last summer and have had a meeting and a phone call, but I have yet to have a face to face assessment. Yesterday, I had a phone call telling me that I'd have monthly phone consultations with a work coach until I was assessed (annoying but not that alarming) and also that i had to agree to a new claimant commitment, which would just confirm this. I was specifically told that I would not have to search for work. But I then had a look at the claimant commitment and it says that I have to look and prepare for work for one hour a week. I haven't agreed.
I left a message in the journal for the work coach, which I hope will be answered tomorrow and if it isn't I'll get on to my local advice centre to find out if I have any rights. But I thought I'd ask here anyway: is this likely to be a mistake and, if it's not, can they do this? I haven't been declared fit for work because I haven't even been assessed, so surely it should be assumed til they know otherwise that this is stuff that I can't do. Does anyone have any experience of a similar situation, where a claimant commitment agreed in a meeting was not the same as what was presented to be signed? If I'm asked to search for work then I won't be able to continue the claim, cos I wouldn't be able to take up any job I'd be offered (i wonder if this might be the point)
