MANDATORY RECONSIDERATION REQUEST was created by swanny1
Hi, My daughter wrote to the DWP back in May requesting a reconsideration of her award. We used the guide template letter but have not heard anything from them. How long should we leave it before chasing up?

Hi swanny,
I really don't know how long it actually takes, but given that it is nearly August it wouldn't hurt to make a phone call. Unless you are an appointee, it is likely that your daughter will need to do this herself. At least then you'll hopefully get an answer as to how much longer, or as is sometimes the case, remind them that your case is still outstanding!
If this is about ESA, then you can put on an immediate appeal now. (There was a a recent case about this.) If this is about PIP have you asked for a copy if the PA4 form (assessment report - assuming an assessment was done)? Ask for this now, your daughter can phone up and request this. This will help you realise why the decision maker has made his decision, even if you don't agree with what's actually been said! Also very useful in case you need to appeal!
I hope you MR result arrives soon!

Thank you LL26.
Yes it 's for her PIP award, I didn't know about the PA4 form. Does this cover telephone assessment's ? I'll ask for this as well.

Hi Swanny

Yes the PA4 does cover telephone assessment.

Have a look at our guide on PIP Appeals (which includes Mandatory Reconsiderations), it is about 2/3 of the way down the page. It might help you make up your mind. If you are going to put in for an MR you need to do it within one month of the decision. You should also ring and ask for the assessment report which will give you more details on you were scored.

Thanks Gary. I've had a look at the guide and used the template given to lodge the request for a reconsideration. I just stated the basic request and not offered no further evidence at that time. We are appealing for the higher rate on both components. The award given scored 11 points for daily living so standard rate and 0 points for mobility. On checking the paperwork I can see the assessment report is already attached to the decision letter.
