Telephone assessment was created by Beverly willows
I’m in the process of helping a good friend he has had pips for 3 yrs although he had to go to tribunal to get it.
Now he had the results from his telephone assessment and he has scored 0 on absolutely everything the letter even goes to say that because his depression medication has not changed since his last claim means it’s stable and controlled, and because he manages to go to work for 20 gr he must be ok it’s all quite bizarre, please whatever is my next step to help him

Hi B

Welcome to the forum, you might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is

Welcome to Benefits and Work

In case you are not aware, your real name appears to be showing in the forum, if you want to change this then follow the instructions in the following FAQ

My full name is showing, how can I stop it?

The first stage to challenging a Decision is for your friend to request a Mandatory Reconsideration, this needs to be done in writing to the DWP, within one month of the Decision, to the office that dealt with your claim, have a look at our PIP MR & Appeal guide for details of the process, the PIP area also has template letters that you can use to make the request with.

www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/help-for-claimants/pip

Your friend should contact the DWP for a copy of the assessment report (PA4) if he has not already done so. I would phone them but again follow up the request in writing. Once you have the assessment report you will both have a better understanding of how the DWP Decision Maker has come to their conclusions and will then be able to argue against them.

Your primary task is to show that your friend meets the criteria: there are many reasons why he may have failed. You need to address each of these but don't get bogged down in criticising the assessment report unless you can clearly show that it is incorrect, it is a lot easier to argue the facts of the situation;

"the assessor recorded that I walked 50m. I did but they have failed to document that I had to stop every 10m for a rest due to breathlessness"

than their opinions

"based on my observations of the claimant walking I believe that they can reliably walk more than 200m.

There are claimants who work and get PIP, but if your friend didn't do so, he must make clear what difficulties he still encounters while at work and what if any reasonable adjustments have been made. Also the overall impact of going to work once he returns home. The medication issue is a typical assessor remark - the chances are he wasn't assessed by a mental health professional.

When you have a better idea of the issues with your friend's claim, come back to the forum and we will do our best to help.

... and just in case he/you Beverley, have not already got the PA4, it sounds like you may have it, if you do phone and get one of the liars, [unless you live in NI] he IS entitled to the PA4 so if they refuse/ try to tell him to wait etc, just politely end the call and try again.
Also I believe they may be wrong in slashing his award from Tribunal, [MODS May want to edit? ] I think they have to give a good reason proving that how his conditions affect him have improved ie not just arbitrary things like you have quoted.
best wishes, Denby
