Applied for pip in April 2021.

The first appointment I got was on August 21st. But they only notified me of this 2 days before, I had an important medical procedure the same day so I had to reschedule. They did the same thing again where they gave me another appointment on the 1st of September, but notified me the day before, and I just had so much on I could not go. So had to reschedule, this time, they said it would have to go to the bottom of the pile, because I had rescheduled twice.

The next appointment I got was the 7th of January, again I was notified 3 days before. Actually this time I was eagerly waiting by the phone, but the phone call never came.. I looked at my call history and there was a withheld number that had been ‘missed’... but my phone didn’t ring, I didn't realise my phone was filtering withheld numbers, turned off this setting and I called pip back straight away (on a different line just in case they tried me again, which they didn't). i explained my situation and they basically told me it’s my responsibility to be available and now they’d have to close my case.

i called again another time and explained that I had no idea that they would be calling from a withheld number, no body told me that, because of having financial problems and being a victim of scams before, i did have an app on my phone that stopped scam calls that i had installed and at some point i’d forgotten about it, which is why this had happened, but i had deactivated it if they could rearrange. i explained, they could have tried me once more 2 minutes later and i would have got it, they didn’t even try calling once more.

i explained as well that if I was going to the jobcentre for a meeting this would not have happened, its because of this remote style assessment, it’s not like i wasn’t there, it was just an unknown technical problem.

so she agreed to reschedule, and i’d get a new appointment in the post. i gave them my landline just in case. but never received an appointment.

called them today and they said my case has been put at the bottom of the pile because of missed appointment and would take minimum of 4 months before i even find out the date.

there’s probably nothing i can do, but if you know anything let me know.

Hi Vincent

I'm sorry you are experiencing this. I'm glad they haven't closed your case. You would have the right to complain. You are supposed to receive 7 days notice of an assessment which you clearly did not have. I would contact your MP and tell them your story. Some of them have been very successful in putting a rocket up the DWP and making them move faster. May be worth a try if you can bear it.
