How can I tell if I am on new style employment and support allowance was created by Fortunate
I have some questions please as I am really worried.
I was on incapacity benefit since 2004 after being medically retired, and move to ESA in 2014, I think I was reviewed again in 2017, I am in the support group.
I also get an occupation pension income of £600+ a month.
How can I tell if I am on New Style Employment and Support Allowance?
Have I been paying national insurance contributions during the time I claimed Incapacity benefit and ESA?
If I get moved to Universal Credit, will I get zero universal credit?
Many thanks

Hi Fortunate
From your post I would doubt that you are in receipt of New Style ESA.
I would advise you to seek help from your local Welfare Rights Organisation; advicelocal.uk they will be able to take all your circumstances into consideration.
If you have an award letter, if you look at the last page it will give you a breakdown on how they made the award.
UC is a means tested benefit, therefore your Occupational pension will be taken into account, as to whether or not you would get zero UC, that would depend on a number of factors, which we do not know, so we cannot tell you.

Thank you for the link.
It looks like I was worrying too much, for nothing, phew!
I am on contributions based ESA, and with it not being a legacy benefit, thankfully I won't be affected by universal credit or having my ESA swiped out. I worry too much, sorry.

Actually, you are!
Legacy ESA is a single benefit with two components, CB ESA and IR ESA, if you receive any IR ESA then this will converted to UC subject to your circumstances, at the same time your CB ESA will be converted to New Style ESA.

Hi Gordon, sorry for the late reply. I get a pension monthly of £611, so some of my ESA is deducted.
Why would I get Income based ESA if I get a pension of this amount?
Thanks

Hi Fortunate
Some claimants receive both CB ESA topped up with IR ESA depending on their circumstances.
Any work/private pension you receive would be deducted £ for £ from IR ESA, whereas If you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA then a lump sum will not affect your ESA but a regular payment will. If the pension is more then £85/week then there will be a £1/week deduction for every £2 in excess of the £85.
