Adult disability payment/change of circumstances? was created by hippyhappyone
Hi,
My pip is changing over to ADP next month. I also get contribution based ESA from DWP.
On neither of the letters from DWP or Social Security Scotland did it say I had to inform them of anything. DWP clearly know about the change.
However, I read in a news article, daily record I think, that if I don't inform DWP about my change in circumstances, that my ESA payments could be stopped. Does anyone know if this is correct? It seems a bit bizarre as like I already said, DWP clearly know!
Also, if it is true, what if I hadn't read that article? How am I supposed to know that this is a change I need to tell them about? I will be getting the exact same amount of money but just from a different place...which they know about!
Phone calls make me very anxious which is why this is such a big deal for me.

Hi hippyhappyone
Going from PIP to ADP is not a change in circumstances, therefore what you read is correct, if you have a change in circumstances such as a death of a partner, a breakdown in a relationship, improvement in your health, change of address (there are others) then you are required to report these changes.
If you are still unsure then contact; www.mygov.scot/benefits-support, www.citizensadvice.org.uk/scotland/benefits/

Hi Gary,
Thank you for your response. I am still a little confused. You said that moving from PIP to ADP is not a change of circumstances, yet also that what I read is correct. I read that it IS a change in circumstances (courtesy of daily record) So do I need to call DWP, or not?

If you are only receiving Contribution Based ESA then it is not affected by your receiving PIP/ADP so there is no need to contact the DWP.
