Opening a new PIP / DLA claim was created by Shoprivat
Hi,

So I've been caring for my mother for many years & we have never thought to open a PIP or DLA claim.

She suffers from severe mental health and a lot of different medical issues with her body which cause a lot of restrictions for day to day life.

I wanted to know which guides shall I start off by reading so I can prepare for opening this claim & I also don't know where I start either.

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks

Hi Shoprivat

Welcome to the forum.

You might want to have a look at the following FAQ which explains where everything is; www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/guides-for-claimants/faq/forum

Your mother will not be able to apply for DLA as it is now closed to new claimants over 16.

You did not say if your mother was of state pension age or not. If your mother is below state pension age then she can claim PIP; www.gov.uk/pip,

If she is over state pension age then she would have to apply for Attendance Allowance; www.gov.uk/attendance-allowance
