ESA Support Group to UC Self Employment vs Unemployed was created by Abbie9
I'm filling out the UC form but I'm not sure what to put on the work and earnings section and am obsessing over it in case I do it wrong. I am unemployed but have an Etsy shop that sold a couple of items in December. I want to make it a business and be self employed and I will be working on it over the next few months but it will take time to become anything. Am I correct that as of now I put unemployed? Also the next question asks: in the next month am I going to be self employed - again do I answer no?

Hi Abbie9

What is your tax status with HMRC? If you are self employed with them then so also with the DWP and again if you are unemployed as per HMRC then the same with DWP.
According to UC rules you don't have to inform them if you sell your personal possessions but if you buy stuff to sell on whether online or at a car boot sale then you do.
