ESA migration to UC help Please was created by Melanie
Hello, I had letter saying I had to migrate from ESA (support group) to UC about 3 months ago. I have since submitted my UC claim and first payment is supposed to go into my account today. I had a letter dated 4th April saying my ESA will end on 27/3/25. However, I had a letter dated 17th April saying my contribution based ESA will change to New Style ESA and have had 3 ESA payments since the 27/3 when I was told payments would stop. In my UC journal I had a message saying the ESA payments will be deducted from my UC payment and was told I need to contact office I claimed ESA from. Can you please tell me what I need to do? Am I better off continuing to receive ESA topped up with UC payment or stop the ESA and just receive UC? All very confusing and I really don't know what to do. Also, the said letter dated the 17th April mentions contacting me to book an appointment that I must attend with a work coach. Why have I been assigned a work coach when I'm in the support group? Find it very difficult to travel, worried sick about having travel to local jobcentre if they won't me to go face to face appointment. Thank you in advance. Kind regards, Mel

Hi Melanie
Support Group and LCWRA claimants are not assigned Work Coaches. You have to agree a New Style ESA Claimant Commitment with a Work Coach. This can be done over the phone.
Also you cannot be Sanctioned by a Work Coach. So they may make threats about non-attendance but that is the case.
It is adviseable to keep the New Style ESA and UC combination as it provides a hedge against future changes of circumstances.
I would send a Journal message to the Work Coach saying that you are in the Enhanced Support Journey and you don't have to attend the Jobcentre and that you are aware of how to complain to the Jobcentre District Manager.
