old style Contribution based esa /Contributory New style Esa was created by vic
About to move sometime this due to being on 2 legacy benefits .
Housing Benefit & income related esa .
I am on also on contributory Esa support group & have been since moving from incapacity benefit .
I only started getting income related esa when i separated then got divorced in 2017 .
About Contributory .
Why do i have to move to New style Contributory & sign a commitment & agree to everything once i make the move to UC when the contributory i have been on since moving from incapacity is irrelevant to Legacy Benefits & didn't have to sign a commitment then ?
If i do sign the commitment does that mean i am starting a new claim & could i be open to losing contributory in 12 mths time like many people do .
I am considering staying on my original contributory & losing income related & housing benefit has i will have to come off means tested benefits due to inheritance i may receive once Probate is completed in 6 -12 mths time .
I cannot handle the stress of the way the benefit system is going & i am not far away from retirement age .
Do i have the choice of just staying on Contributory if i didn't apply on my deadline date or would my Contributory stop to ?

Hi vic
The new Labour government is proposing sweeping changes to the Benefits system. If as you say you cannot handle the stress of the Benefits system and can live on pensions alone then you could close all your Benefit claims now. Otherwise you are likely to get Home Visits from the DWP and invitations to agree a New Style ESA Claimant Commitment. You could stay on Contributions Based ESA but everyone has to agree a Claimant Commitment for New Style ESA.

Hi David
What i was considering was staying on old style Esa contributions based support group & not migrating to UC by the deadline date .
I do also get pip .
I dont understand why i would have to do 2 commitments one for UC & one for New Style Esa that is not a legacy benefit

Hi vic
You have to accept a basic Claimant Commitment for New Style ESA. You can do this over the phone and it is just agreeing to inform the DWP of any change of circumstances.
