ESA migration to UC need some help filling in form with regards to housing. was created by Dave
Hi I have recently received a letter about migration to UC with a deadline at the end of July.
I have gone through the questions thanks to the Citizens advice link provided from this excellent site. I thought it would be best to take my time rather than just jump into applying online. I am stuck on the housing question as I shall explain.
Currently and have been for 10yrs now living with my mother following the death of my father. Currently live in social housing but the tenancy is in my mothers name and it is her who applies for housing benefit. They are fully aware that I live with my mother as some deductions are made to HB. I shall add my mother receives just the state pension and pension credit.
So when I click on housing costs if I select no then it asks if I am homeless. If I select Yes then I have the option to select living with parents. Am I right to assume that I should select yes to housing costs as I do pay board to my mother.
Whilst I am typing I have a couple more questions.
Is there anywhere on the online application that you can submit additional information to explain my situation with housing?
Do I need to provide bank statements for migration as I am getting mixed opinions on this upon googling the subject?
My ESA letters always state my award is income related. However a good few years ago I was on CB ESA and received a large sum of money as back pay due to an error of not being paid the IR premium. Since then my award letters state I am on income related ESA. I have no idea why it isn't a combination of CB & IR ESA that I am on. I still receive the yearly certificate of pay and taxable benefit and tax deducted/refunded letter. So I am confused if UC will replace just the IR ESA or fully replace my ESA award if that makes sense?
I would appreciate your help.

Hi Dave
Unfortunately you cannot get Housing Costs when living with a parent even though as you say you pay board.
I cannot say if the DWP will request bank statements.
If you get a P60 then that indicates Contributions Based ESA in payment.

Thanks for the reply. So when I get round to filling this in I shall just say no to housing costs. I hope there is somewhere on the application I can fully explain that I live with my mum.
Ironically I have just received that tax certificate in the post and it does say on it that its a P60U on the bottom left. So now I need to google what this means. Currently have no idea if this means I shall get all my income from UC or some from ESA & UC.

Hi Dave
The P60U indicates that you have been in receipt of Contributions Based ESA. So you will receive New Style ESA and UC together.
