ESA migration with universal credit was created by lamplight2012
Hello #
I wonder if you can advise me how a monthly award that migrates over with SDP in place is affected with a claim of carers allowance later down the line?
I'm due to migrate over but I can't figure out what happens to my benefits if someone (an adult child not living with me) has to later give up work and care for me? Is this allowed?
If they give up work what happens TO ME if they claim carers allowance or if they claim carers element? How are my monthly payments in all elements effected?
Are carers allowance and carers element different?
Do they impact my personal benefit amount in different ways? How would they know which to go on or claim? Is one better than the other?
I'm very confused and thank you so much for your help.

Hi lamplight2012
UC is different from ESA in so far as you don't experience a reduction if a person separate from your household is caring for you.
You would be best advised to phone the Citizens Advice Help to Claim phone number which is on page 2 of your Migration letter.
They have Benefits and Transitional Protection calculators which can predict your entitlement.
Here is a recommendation from our Forum member VIA--

Let me know how you get on.
