Calling mr was created by Richard
Hi my friend has been awarded 10 points for dl and mobility, but it was a paper assessment and the DM hasn't given any points on the two main problems and three other activities are scored very low. De think what with the evidence provided the scores should be higher especially on the 2 main problems. The question is is it worth trying to appeal? she's worried they'll be nasty and drop points so the pip will be reversed and at this moment she needs the money to get to appointments etc.
I did say that probably won't happen but if it does you can go to tribunal.
But she's thinking is it worth all the stress for 2 points on each DL/ Mobility
And because it was a paper assessment can you appeal in writing or should she phone
Any help would be gratefully
Thanks

Hi Richard
We can't tell you whether or not your friend should put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration - that is something she will have to decide for herself.
Only 27% of Mandatory Reconsiderations are won. I know your friend is worried that if she questions the decision they may take away what she has already been awarded. The chances of that happening are low and most decisions stay as they were. I have only ever known two people have their awards lowered at MR stage and they were unusual cases.
Do have a look at the Guide to PIP Appeals which says how to put in for a Mandatory Reconsideration. Even if your friend rings to say that she wishes to put in a Mandatory Reconsideration - she would be ill-advised to give out the information over the phone. You cannot guarantee that the call-handler will correctly record what she has said.
I would also look at the guide on how to challenge a Medical report - so she understands the best way to counter their arguments. especially if they have ignored information.
