ESA to universal credit. was created by Ms.Basset
Hi, I got my letter to transfer, had phone interview more or less straight away.
Got a letter saying my ESA would end and when last payment would be.
Opened the Journal to find I’ve been told I need to let ESA know and my first payment would be a paltry amount due to them deducting ESA?
I’m so confused, do they not communicate this with each other and why to I have a letter telling me it’s stopped from 7/5/25 last payment for that period til 20/5/25?
This has brought me to tears and anxiety and I’ve not even had first payment!?

Hi Ms Basset
I gather that the start date of your new UC claim is 7 May 2025. So your UC Assessment Period will run from 7th May until 6th June and your first UC payment will be on the 13th June. You should get a payment statement posted on your UC account on the 9th June.
There is no need to tell anyone about your new UC claim apart from the Council Tax department if your home attracts Council Tax.
Do you get sent a P60 from the DWP in a brown envelope ?

Hi, I did get a P60 recently.
The journal stated a need to tell ESA and showed that they had deducted x amount of money because of last ESA payment I must assume?
I’m totally confused by it all as was told on my phone interview I’d wait until the 13th June to be paid first amount and told on the 9th June the amount I’d get. That amount showed early hours Saturday. £433.00

Hi Ms.Basset
The evidence points to the fact that you were previously in receipt of Contributions Based ESA which is now converted to New Style ESA. The ESA will be paid fortnightly but you will not overall be better off as the amount of ESA will be deducted from the UC you receive monthly.
Four days before you get your UC payment you can go into your UC account and your payment statement should be there showing the calculation of your Benefit.
Let me know how you get on.
