LCWRA was created by rik
Hi
Like many others migrating from ESA support group to universal credit I have recently been made aware that I have been in receipt of contribution based ESA which is not means tested and is not reduced by having savings or partners income etc
My question is as the LCWRA element will be paid via universal credit when I migrate over is this benefit means tested? meaning the LCWRA element will be reduced by savings over £6000 and partners income etc
Thanks
Rik

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi rik
Contributions Based ESA or New Style ESA is an overlapping Benefit with UC. So UC is reduced £ for £. After that UC is reduced in the normal way for wages and savings. You may be entitled to a UC Work Allowance.

Thanks
So if any savings I had went above the £16k limit for claiming universal credit(not that there is any chance of that happening) the LCWRA would be removed as that is paid via universal credit.
Thanks

Hi rik
But you would still get the Support Component of New Style ESA regarldless of savings or of partner's income. See below--

Thanks David
I wish we had been made aware by the DWP 15 years ago that I was on cb esa as my partner has turned down several job offers over the years as we thought it wasn't worth it financially and assumed our esa payments would stop but it now turns out that would not have been the case
it's sad because life may have turned out differently if the DWP had bothered to mention it on the yearly benefit rate letter they send but they never did
Thanks
Rik
