Migration from ESA to UC mixed age couple was created by tillyboo
I have been trying for nearly 3 months to get help to migrate online. To visit our home & do these migration forms. I contacted several organisations inc CAB Help to Claim on the migration letters. But to no avail.
I rung UC explained our situation:
My husband had a stroke & as recently been diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer which as spread. Hes undergoing treatment awful side affects, sleeps all day, no appetite, nausea & vomiting. His mobility is very bad & as to be wheelchaired from home to the Marsden.
I broke my my back some years ago & during rehab suffered Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss, which left me deaf, I have 40% vocal clarity in one ear. This sudden loss as caused brain damage & I have many side effects.
I rung UC to see if they could help & send someone down & was told no.
So finally today I found a local carers centre who is sending someone on the 18th June to do forms.
My questions are:
Its a joint ESA claim, but my husband is 71 & gets state pension which is reduced from the ESA. I am the younger & main claimant & added him to my.claim. We both get SDP, carers premium as we care for each other full housing benefit & both get PIP. Council tax as now changed to getting 95% instead of 100%.
My questions:
1. Are mixed age couples like us harder to migrate
2. The only time I could get someone to fill in these migration forms is the 18th June, my next ESA is the 19th June. Will this cause a problem. My deadline is 21st June.
Thank you for any replies. I dont know how to get email notifications when someone answers, so will just keep checking in.

Not sure if my first reply went thru? So aoplogies if you this reply.
I have been ringing that number, but they will only do over the phone claims & not visits.
I did try calling them today re the 2 questions about mixed age couple & the dates on my original message to you. But each time I rung Help to Claim was a message saying busy call back. I did try several times, hence my message on here.

Hi tillyboo
As you are the younger member of a mixed aged couple and have the claim in your name then you will have to claim UC rather than Pension Credit.
Did you look at getting the Pensioner Premium on your ESA?
You can ask for a Home Visit from a DWP officer to start your UC claim.
