cbESA and irESA was created by Philip B
For over 10 years I believed I was on irESA and filed my P60u's. I have completed the move to UC and find out what I will get in a few days time. A few days ago I received 3 letters from the DWP. One was telling my my irESA is now finished. Another letter with a P45 and a third letter telling my how much I had been paid in cbESA up until my last payment (the one you get two weeks after a UC claim is made). This letter mentions the 2025/2026 period but does not state when from. I presume it starts at the beginning of the tax year. I calculated how much cbESA I was getting over 2 weeks. The amount is around £20 more than what I am actually getting in total. It is so confusing. My question is do the DWP work tax years from 6th April or do they calculate it from 1st January. My P60u runs 6th April until 5th April the following year. Thanks for any help with this.

Hi Will

As far as the P45 and P60U are concerned the Tax year is the HMRC Tax year going from the 6 April to the 5 April annually.

I received notification of my UC amount and the monthly amount paid. It is slightly more than the amount I received from ESA. There is no breakdown of the payment so I am puzzled why there is no mention of new-style ESA. I have not received any fortnightly payments since 2 weeks after my UC transfer date. My cognition is not very good today. I don't receive my first UC payment for a few days so I wait? Do they send a letter or is it just the update in your journal. I am confused about this.

Hi Philip B

Your UC payment statement should be posted to your account 4 days before you receive your UC payment.

Hi David. That was what I was quoting. A monthly payment of standard allowance and LCWRA.

They did send me two notifications in my UC account saying their records shows that I am no longer in receipt of numerous benefits including ESA and if this was not the case I was to contact them.

I also had £20 deducted from my first UC payment which is supposed ESA I was not entitled to. Shouldn't the department that deals with new-style ESA have contacted me?

I can't understand that I receive a letter informing me most of my ESA is contribution-based and then stopped with no reason give.

Apologies David I am not well and my thinking is a bit slow and blurred.
