PIP Decision/Audio recording was created by craig41
I have just received the decision letter in regards to my PIP renewal, which was carried out via telephone on the 29th of last month.Prior to the appointment I rang the helpline and requested that I wanted the call to be recorded, which I was told would be noted. On the day in question the health professional informed me that the conversation was being recorded, and I would receive a copy within a week.
Needless to say I have still not received this.
The decision letter states I have only been awarded 6 points, compared to 12 points 4 years ago.I clearly explained on both the questionnaire and during the recording that my health conditions have worsened and I supplied medical evidence in the firm of written letters. As I do not agree with the decision I have informed them that I want to go down the road of Mandatory Reconsideration, which I have until the 28th of July to supply further evidence. I am relying partly to information I gave during the audio call which I can cross reference with the decision letter.I was told that even with the audio recording submitted to them it would not count towards the decision.I questioned this as what was the point of the assesment being recorded! I was told it was for my benefit only, but I could refer to it if I wanted to use it towards the Mandatory Reconsideration.Seriously I could put anything down and if as they say they would not listen to the recording, it would be my word against there's...how ridiculous!
When I then rang Maximus and mentioned the recording g there was no mention of it on their system.I now have to wait for them to try and locate it.In the meantime it is holding me up with providing further details with the Mandatory Reconsideration.
My PIP has now stopped and as I was getting the enhanced premium I expect my other benefits( ESA Cont/Universal Credit will be reduced.

Hi Craig41

I'm so sorry to hear of your position. That's why we advise people to try recording the assessment themselves, even if they have asked for it to be recorded. Too often, something goes wrong with the assessor's recordings, and as you rightly point out, it becomes a case of 'he said, she said.' But even if they don't locate your recording, you will know what you said and didn't say. You also still have the evidence that you provided to show that your condition has deteriorated, so remind them of that. Have a look at the guide to Challenging a PIP Medical Report and see if there is any information in there that might be useful in compiling your MR.

Come back if you have any questions and we will try and help.
