ESA to Universal Credit - Fit Note Required

I am going through the process of migrating from ESA to Universal Credit and finding the whole thing extremely stressful.

I’ve been claiming ESA since 2012, and was in the ESA work related activity group.
I also live with, and care for my elderly mother 35+ hours per week, and receive carer's allowance, which is deducted from my ESA.

I sent off my Work Capability Assessment ESA50 form back in September last year, and have not heard anything from the DWP since. I therefore assumed that I did not need a face to face assessment because the answers I had provided in the form were sufficient.
However, I have since been told in another forum, that WCA backlogs are ridiculously long.

Then I received a letter telling me I had to move to Universal Credit on the 30th May. I have done everything that was required so far.

But now I have received a message in my UC journal saying that I have to get fit notes from my GP.

The message is as follows:

“When you applied for Universal Credit we told you that you did not need to provide a fit note.
We have since found that you have not yet had a Work Capability Assessment outcome for your health condition.

A Work Capability Assessment is something we refer you for when you have an ongoing health condition that restricts your ability to work.

What this means
You must now get a fit note from your GP or healthcare professional, if you still have a health condition or disability which restricts your ability to work.
You are allowed to self-certify for the first 7 days when you tell us you are not fit for work.
The start date of your fit note should be the date you made your Universal Credit claim plus 7 days. For example, 14 March + 7 days would be a fit note start date of 21 March.

What happens next
If you do not provide a fit note, or a good reason for failing to do so, we will consider you to be capable for work.
This means you may be asked to look for, and be available for, work and work-related activity.
You must continue to provide a fit note until either:
you tell us your health condition no longer restricts your ability to work
or
you have a health assessment decision
If you need to contact us, send a message using your journal.”

I thought that my ESA status would migrate to UC, and as I have already returned my WCA form several months ago, and it is not my fault that the WCA backlogs are so long, it seems unfair that I should now be required to provide repeat fit notes until I get a WCA outcome.

I have requested a self-certified fit note on my GP's website, and am waiting for a response, but a self-certified fit note only covers me for a week, so I will need to get an appointment with my GP to request repeat fit notes until I have a Work Capability Assessment outcome, but I have not been able to get a telephone appointment with my GP until the 25th July. So I don’t know what I am supposed to do.
I have sent a message to a work coach in my UC journal asking them to advise me, but as it’s the weekend I have not yet received a reply, and I don’t know how long it generally takes them to reply as it is.

A message in my journal says I have to accept my new claimant commitments by the 26th June, or they will be unable to pay me. I doesn’t even tell me what these new claimant commitments are, I assume it is to provide the fit note.

If I don’t provide a fit note, they will deem me fit for work.

I care for my elderly mother, even if my own health condition were to permit it, I wouldn't be able to look for work as my Mother cannot be left to fend for herself, and is too frail to be left alone.

I was under the impression that if I receive Carer's Allowance, I would not be required to look for employment anyway.

I’m finding this whole debacle very confusing and stressful. I have enough to deal with looking after my mother, as well as my own mental health, and now all this worry on top.

I’ve had some good advice on a mental health forum, but wondered if anyone on here could tell me of their similar experiences.

I read the pinned post from Gaddy “ESA migration to UC” containing the email from the MP Stephen Timms, but to be honest, I’m still confused.

Thanks for reading, I know it was long post, so thanks for reading this far.
