Home visit for medical for credits only ESA application was created by xerox
I've helped my son to fill in his credits only ESA application and he has just had a phone call from DWP saying he needs to come in for a medical and there is absolutely no provision for home visits.
He told them he is currently bedridden/housebound and they replied: your condition (severe long covid) doesn't qualify him for a home visit.
Is this true? If not, what can we do about it?
I'd really appreciate advice as my son is getting worse every time he has to push himself to get out and I'm not sure it's worth a deterioration in his health to go for a medical examination - particularly as the examiner is unlikely to understand the limitations of this disease.
To confirm he is not wanting to claim UC, just credits only ESA.
Thanks in advance!

Nothing on this board constitutes legal advice - always consult a professional about specific problems

Hi xerox
So a UC telephony agent or a Work Coach has made an arbitrary decision about a someone's health without looking at any medical evidence and I expect without any medical training on their part. It is appalling treatment. You should make a complaint to a DWP Area manager. If you tell me the city or county of your residence I will find the correct manager to complain to.

Thanks David,
Unfortunately I wasn't there when he had the phone call otherwise I could have intervened. It's so stressful for my son. This operator rang him repeatedly (twice 8 times in a row each time) last week threatening to cancel his application. My son was too ill to answer the phone at that time (he avoids the phone as he sleeps a lot of the day)
I tried to call back but the number didn't allow leaving a message. We're in Cambridge.
I am unwell myself so not sure I have the energy to complain but I am seeking info on how to arrange a home visit for my son - can you advise at all?
Thankyou.

Thanks David. Maybe I can also ask her if a home visit is going to be possible?
